Bulls say
Fold Holdings is attractive because its Lead Bank partnership strengthens core banking infrastructure across accounts, deposits, withdrawals, and Bitcoin trading, while giving it a path to earn more durable economics from customer balances rather than relying only on transaction revenue. The balance sheet also looks improved, with $28.4 million of cash, 194 BTC worth about $11.4 million, and roughly $59.1 million of digital-asset sale proceeds used to eliminate about $20 million of secured debt and $145,000 of monthly interest expense. Growth in the Bitcoin Rewards Credit Card adds further support, as cardholders rose above 2,000 from 1,000-plus, transactions per user increased roughly 4x, and an ~80k-person waitlist suggests meaningful upside as distribution broadens.
Bears say
Fold Holdings is facing a weaker fundamental backdrop as 2026E and 2027E revenue estimates were cut by 55% and 62%, reflecting a softer crypto trading environment, slower card ramp, and transaction volume that fell 32% y/y to $172m in 1Q26. Revenue of $5.6m missed consensus of $10.0m, underscoring that its Bitcoin Rewards Credit Card and broader ecosystem monetization are still early and not yet achieving scale, with just over 1,000 cards in circulation and rollout intentionally throttled for fraud and underwriting control. The outlook remains negative because the business is highly sensitive to Bitcoin prices, faces rising competition from other cryptocurrencies and card issuers, and carries regulatory and tax uncertainty that could constrain growth and profitability.
