AerCap Hlds (AER) Analyst Ratings
Bulls say
AerCap Holdings is favored for its dominant scale as the world’s largest aircraft lessor, with a fleet of more than 1,500 aircraft and a platform that can capitalize on narrow- and wide-body supply-demand imbalances. Strong aircraft sales, including 52 owned aircraft sold in the quarter, along with robust buybacks and deliveries, point to durable capital generation, while improved EPS estimates to $4.80 for Q3 and $19.77 for 2026 reflect higher gain-on-sale revenue, lower interest expense, and fewer shares outstanding. Its largely young, fuel-efficient fleet, limited exposure to weaker airline credits, and long-term lease cash flows support resilience even when oil prices rise, creating attractive sale-leaseback opportunities and reinforcing upside potential.
Bears say
AerCap Holdings is exposed to a structurally risky business model in which it owns high-value aircraft while airlines lease them without residual risk, leaving the company vulnerable to declines in aircraft values, weak asset recoveries, and delayed repossession if lessees underperform. Its leverage and funding model add further pressure because it borrows substantially to acquire aircraft, depends on capital markets to finance growth, and could face covenant stress or constrained expansion if access to capital tightens, while deferred lease payments may later become bad debt. The company’s recent capital allocation of $783mm in share repurchases at an average price of $147.12 per share, alongside an expected decline in other income to $70mm from $90mm in Q2, also suggests less cushion if international recovery, OEM production, or broad airline demand disappoints.
