OBK Analyst Ratings
Bulls say
Origin Bancorp is attractive because its relationship-banking franchise is gaining momentum in high-growth Texas and Southeast markets, where disruption from large-bank acquisitions creates room to win deposits, loans, and talent. 2Q26 showed the model working: deposits rose $580M year over year to $8.7B, DDA increased nearly $200M to 26% of total deposits, loans grew to $8.1B, and the NIM expanded 21bp to 3.92% on a 55% floating-rate book. With credit still benign, criticized loans at 1.81% of the portfolio, TCE at 11.1%, a higher dividend, and continued buybacks, the company has multiple levers to compound earnings and return capital.
Bears say
Origin Bancorp is facing a more challenging setup as it surpassed $10B in assets during 1Q26, which could trigger the Durbin Amendment in mid-2027 and create an estimated $4.0-$4.5M annual revenue headwind if assets stay above that threshold. The outlook is further clouded by meaningful downside risks, including credit deterioration, higher-than-expected provisioning, faster Fed easing that could compress yields and margin, and potentially poor M&A execution or regulatory delays. With a prolonged slowdown in Louisiana, Texas, or Mississippi also likely to weaken loan and revenue growth, relative outperformance versus regional banks appears unlikely, supporting a cautious view.
