#FIREbender Life Update and a reminder to prioritize self care 💛 So if you didn't know, I'm currently investing toward's the goal of barista FI (financial independence) which will hopefully allow me some financial freedom to pursue my passions down the road. The past few weeks have reminded me why I'm doing this. I currently work two jobs. Working in retail and teaching dance. These obviously don't pay a ton. Dance is my passion job, and my day job helps me not starve which is good👍🏼 This means I work 8am-8pm most days, and then on the weekends I teach a couple private lessons. But I have a problem saying no when people need me, so I always am picking up extra classes... coming into my day job on a day off... And even my time off is spent researching stocks, cutting music for my dancers, picking out costumes... it never ends. And somehow I've been trying to stay active on Public too? 😅 If you haven't noticed... I haven't posted in almost a week. Guys life is hard. 😭 ——————————————— I'm not saying this to complain... but it proposes a good question. Why do you invest? There's many reasons for me. To make passive income, for retirement, a safety net, to travel, to support a family someday, to provide me options to work a less stressful life than what I'm doing now. The more I work, the more money to invest, the faster I reach my goal. Good right? 🛑✋🏼Well, lets pump the breaks for a second. I think these are great goals... but mental health and rest are so important. I listened to a podcast that I'll link called "8 Mistakes to Avoid if You Want to Retire Earlier". It's a 15 minute listen and I think it's a good self check. She said that when she was saving up for retirement, she wished she took more vacations and rested along the way. Her and her husband worked so much and never stopped to rest. And I’ll tell you what… I don’t want to do that. I still love the FI/RE movement don’t get me wrong, but if this is a path you ever consider, make sure you allow yourself to balance hard work and heavy investing with mental health and self care. And I’ll try to take my own advice every once in awhile. Happy investing ☺️ ——————————————— Podcast: To catch up on my Barista Fi series: check out the #FIREbender tag.
