Litecoin

Litecoin was developed as an alternative peer-to-peer cryptocurrency that addressed some of Bitcoin’s inefficiencies at the time. Lee replicated Bitcoin’s code, but made several tweaks including one that would make the Litecoin network process a block 4 times faster than Bitcoin does.

Litecoin was created in 2011 by ex-Google engineer and MIT graduate Charlie Lee. 

Litecoin’s supply is capped at 84 million LTC. 

Litecoin was at the center of a hoax when it was falsely reported that the cryptocurrency reached an agreement with Walmart to be an accepted form of payment by the retailer. 

Litecoin (CRYPTO: LTC) is trading lower by 5.80% to $84.91 during Friday's session. The altcoin is trading lower in sympathy with the broader cryptocurrency sector following key U.S. economic data.
