Litecoin was developed as an alternative peer-to-peer cryptocurrency that addressed some of Bitcoin’s inefficiencies at the time. Lee replicated Bitcoin’s code, but made several tweaks including one that would make the Litecoin network process a block 4 times faster than Bitcoin does.

Litecoin was created in 2011 by ex-Google engineer and MIT graduate Charlie Lee. 

Litecoin’s supply is capped at 84 million LTC.
