While I feel every city will become a #crytpo city eventually… it seems like there’s a bit of a battle aligning between MIA x NYC. Granted there are more cities with traction, but these two have been a bit louder with it. Here’s what I’m tracking —
NYC: #NFT x NYC recently took place and I actually had an invite to an event. Granted I was just hanging out with the amazing people from Public, but to see the scale of this event was amazing! The #NFT community is really growing and the amount of folks who went to the events during this was nothing to overlook. No gas.
New Mayor, #Bitcoin — not only is Mayor- Elect Eric Adams taking some of his salary (first 3 checks.. while it’s at a ATH 👀) in $BTC , but he’s also focused on making the Big Apple the hub with things ranging from teaching about Crypto to aligning innovate ways people get paid and/or pay for goods/services.
Moving down to MIA: this city is booming with tech and startups, but their Mayor made a major move. The City of Miami will soon give out a “#bitcoin yield” from the staking of its #cryptocurrency to its citizens. It would equal roughly one-fifth of Miami’s total annual tax revenue of $400 million. The city will make the payments through a digital wallet and will work with a variety of cryptocurrency exchanges to allow its residents to acquire a wallet, register and get verified. Gonna watch this due to seeing how it played out in El Salvador.
The core similarities between both cities is CityCoin. What CityCoin is pretty much a decentralized project for each city aligned within the program. CityCoins are programmable city-based tokens that unlock a new community-driven revenue stream for local governments while bringing collaborative technology to its citizens and ecosystem of stakeholders. Each city that accepts CityCoins will have a designated wallet that is custodied for the city and can be auto-converted into $USD.
This is exciting to watch play out, but I’m certain other cities are taking notes to see how this fairs for adoption within their own city. Yet, the conversion is a keen thing for me.
