#MacroEconomics #InvestopediaCliffNotes
Do we have any econ majors here on Public? Did they teach you how to invest in those classes? I'm super curious because I did engineering and pre-med and essentially had zero exposure to the stock market.
The Breakdown:
- Macroeconomics is the big picture study of the economy as a whole and primarily focuses on national output, unemployment, and inflation
- "Governments can use macroeconomic policy including monetary and fiscal policy to stabilize the economy" - Investopedia
- The state of the overall economy has a direct impact on your individual investments regardless of whether they are individual stocks or ETFs
How do I find Macroeconomic statistics?
- "The U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis provides official macroeconomic statistics." - Investopedia
- To get a broad sense of the overall economy, the national output is inferred by the gross domestic product (GDP), the unemployment rate, and rate of inflation (look for consumer price index)
What should I know about Macroeconomics before investing?
- "Output, the most important concept of macroeconomics, refers to the total amount of goods and services a country produces, commonly known as the gross domestic product (GDP). "
- A low unemployment rate signals a period of growth and likely increased output or GDP
- Inflation is the depreciation of buying power for the dollar in the US and measured by Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the GDP deflator (ratio nominal GDP to real GDP)
- These 3 have bearing not only on the company but sentiment of the individual investors as well
What are the downsides of Macroeconomics?
- Not really a downside to macroeconomics other than to say ignore it at your own peril
- "Although it is consumers who ultimately determine the direction of the economy, governments also influence it through fiscal and monetary policy." - Investopedia

@theshoebroker 😁TY! You just made my week. This week has dragged on for me and I have feel like I have literally been mentally limping my way to the weekend. TGIF!! I'm super pumped about sharing what I learned about Crypto and blockchain for the next two weeks. I'm thinking I might go back for another 2 weeks cycle on Technical Analysis but do a vid per chart pattern. Still mulling ideas for the n…See more

🤙🏼 no problem at all my dude. 💯 I know your content helps me a lot. And I’m sure it helps a lot of other traders out there as well. Keep up the great work.
And I feel you, sometimes the market likes to slap people in the face. (At least I know for sure it enjoys doing that to me from time to time.) But I have learned patience is the key factor with being a successful trader 💯
With that being sa…See more

I STILL have all my notes and books from Macro. My professor was in the oil industry and he would occasionally throw us hints about investing, I have been hooked ever since

Btw, can’t wait to see your crypto content. I have definitely been a late adapter to crypto. But very eager to learn and see if I can still catch some price movement on this recent crypto bull run 🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑

I took a economics course in college and I don't remember anything about investing.

@theshoebroker will have to check out that channel! Thanks for the tip! And the crypto will be basic. If I can't understand and explain it simply then that is probably a bad sign for crypto adoption. If they want crypto to be adopted widely then it needs to be simple enough for everyone to understand!
@triniman82 nice! It is funny how a few key people can shape your life like that
@vbtiger16 my best…See more

I don't know if I'll ever fully understand crypto, but I'm getting into the Bitcoin mining gig so hopefully in 3 years time I'll make a nice return.

Some nice tips on here! I will be taking Macroeconomics next semester 👏🏼 Excited to learn somethings that can further my investment knowledge 🧠

Thanks for the information this am. Have a awesome day bro and keep the information coming 🔥
S
yeah when I took macroeconomics as part of my core classes, I remember covering supply and demand and everything else is a blur 😂 I wish I had cared more when I was studying it
A
Funny, when in economics we don't think it is applicable. Now we are looking back saying we should have listened better. I do recall that most things are connected to one another.

👀 Can I be the weird student? I sat in the front seat and consumed every single bit that came out of micro and macroeconomic (A+ student). Yes, they didn’t teach investing (that is not the purpose of the capitalistic corporation we are in). The goal is to run you through the system to be employed by “them”). That said, the knowledge gain has allowed me to read and understand all the media noise, “…See more

Not an Econ major but I just finished an Econ section for a program I’m doing- extremely important to have foundations for investing 👍

what about micro?

Thanks for sharing, all the info really does help to make more informed decisions, especially for me as a newbie to stocks and trading. 😅🙌🏼💯🙌🏼👍🏼💚

I did a Bachelors in Biology, and did not get any exposure to investing/finance/economics. Luckily I decided to also get a Business Foundations Certificate, which was the closest thing to a Business minor that my college offered. Through the business foundations certificate I was able to take an intro advertising, marketing, accounting, law, finance, and microeconomics course. These ended up being…See more

@vbtiger16 what are you doing mining through? How did you get set up?
@brendanschema excited to learn from what you learn next semester!!
@GetSlade can do! Hope you have a great weekend
@sydward nice! I wish I had cared more too. Econ at U of M was a huge weeder class for pre-business and so I wasn't trying to take it as a pre-med student ... had to protect my GPA

@invstr_ 💙
@celtic lol, funny how life is like that. It is all connected
@A007Kenny the drive that comes with being an imigrant is different for sure!!
@nluu very cool! I'm sure UPENN has some studs in their business department, are you able to audit classes?
C
@nktrs I don't have one yet, but can add that to my list of videos to make if interested!
@MamaLita3 thank you! lots of great YouTube channels and podcasts out tehre

@financepillowtalk Oh nice! My sister did a certificate at UVA after she finished undergrad but before her masters. She found it very interesting and applicable for trying to do more the management track for work. But she still isn't interested in the stock market

@ctsshah I had a buddy who referred me to vbit mining they take care of the PC rigs and host it...I don't have to worry about setting up the system in my house and worry about the heat or breakdown of the machines..I was looking into doing it before, but new it would take too much setup and time for me after researching it and talking to a coworker who has been doing it
C
@vbtiger16 very cool! maybe I can use this to heat my house in the winter and make money

@ctsshah haha I think the microeconomics class was interesting (and the only of those that really discussed investing) but it didn’t truly get me into investing either. Wasn’t until I actually had some money to play with that I got interested. Like “I can turn this money into MORE money”?!
C
@vbtiger16 I'm in North Carolina now!!
