We’re doing some system maintenance
It's the end of an era on broadcast TV. The CW most notable for shows like Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries Universe, the Arrowverse shows, Charmed, and dozens of other shows is being sold to Nexstar Media Group $NXST. 🥺 Under the terms being discussed, Nexstar would acquire 75% of the CW, a broadcast network aimed primarily at teens and young adults, with current owners Paramount $PARA and Warner Bros. Discovery $WBD each retaining 12.5% stakes, the people said. 💲 Nexstar isn’t expected to pay at a for the CW but instead would take at least a significant portion of the network’s current losses, which could exceed $100 million, some of the people said. The talks could still fall apart, but the people familiar with the matter say an agreement could be finalized in the coming weeks. How did this happen? 👀 In 2019, the CW’s parent companies decided to end what was a $1 Billion Netflix agreement because both wanted CW content for their own streaming services—Paramount+ and HBO Max, respectively. Due to the way the CW is owned, the studios behind the network reaped all the profits while the network was never making a profit, but used to push content that was valuable to the studios. Fast forward to June 2022 with news of the sale looming, the studios behind the CW cancelled the following: DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, Legacies (ending 13 years of the TVDU), Naomi, 4400, the reboots of Charmed and Dynasty, In the Dark, and more. Nexstar is likely to turn the YA, teen focused network into now a older audience targeted one that will have political news channel NewsNation, and The Hill. So #publiccommunity - did you ever watch a show on the CW? If so, what show. Also how do you feel about the end of the #entertainment network as we know it?
