#BigTechBrother #Monopoly
I'm really curious what the #PublicCommunity has to say about Big Tech and the strangle they have on crafting the narrative and revenue when it comes to the media. Especially from those that are connected to the media in some form - @katiep , @noraali , @dionrabouin , @julieverhage , and @traderdanielle
"Indeed, despite the enormous revenue that Google and Facebook are able to generate due to their monopoly over news and information — as these digital platforms are the main source of news for 86 percent of Americans — current copyright and antitrust law in the U.S. does not mandate compensation to publishers. Nor does it provide any real legal basis for news publishers to be able to collectively negotiate with these online platforms."
P.S.: While investing in monopolies is usually a good investment ... see chart below ... I do worry about the growing power and influence w/ minimal oversight.

@chrisofreplay That was why I got off $FB in 2020. It is super sad. Now that I have had time to decompress a little from the strain of 2020, I do find myself growingly concerned about it all and the trajectory it is on.

@Vc2miller So that honestly is what got my attention is the fact they are global and it is so new that I don't think we have well thought out policies and rules globally. Instead they can change their hub and location to whatever suits their agenda best. I wonder if this is what it was like back in the day w/ railraods. I've never been much a history buff but now I am getting curious

@xiantese I really do not like politics so I just kind of put my head in the sand with this stuff but I do think this is going to become an issue that transcends politics. I only recently started going down the rabbit hole of Section 230 - https://www.cnet.com/news/section-230-how-it-shields-social-media-and-why-congress-wants-changes/

Censorship is a big issue.

I'm having a hard time reconciling my objective of growing my portfolio and maintaining my morals. $MRNA for instance, probably a good investment, I can't support the company, same with $FB and the other media giants as mentioned earlier... Trading View should add morality as an indicator on its charts lol

@sheenhart censorship and misinformation are up there. Still crazy to think that FB targeted ads were able to play a part in swaying an election regardless of which way you vote
@tejana I got back on this year to start page for my Financial Literacy via Whiteboard Shorts and staying on it to see photos of people's kids and families from med school / resdiency and my extended family

@jonhostrop are you talking about the graph in the post? This is a feature on the compose function that allows me to compare up to 4 stock tickers. It is more for creating content but honestly would be a great retool as a feature app for comparing companies. I know Fidelity has a nice compare feature for when you are doing research

@ctsshah the central banks have been bailing countries and corporations out since the dawn of civilization. They put everyone in debt. Thats how they took control of the entire global economy!

I have a lot of history to catch up on! They didn’t teach this in pre med or med school 😜 @Vc2miller

@ctsshah the idea that big tech is crafting the narrative is horrifying but happening. Around the 🌎 world freedom of speech is not universal. It is a founding and fundamental principal of being American. If big tech gets to decide who can & can’t speak - yikes scary. It is a slippery slope. North Korea does that … China does that…. Voices of dissentiom are jailed or silenced. Before anyone says b…See more

@ctsshah of course. They control the curriculum. They are not going to give out their secrets to the workers. We are taught to regurgitate their teachings. Get out of school and go to their universities. Where we are already in mountains of their debt. Then we go to work in their companies, where they pay us just enough to pay back our debts and create new debt!

@Arkygirl43 🤮 no thanks to government governing big tech. Hard pass. I simply think the collective public needs to agree on some guard rails. I did however think the push for a global business tax was probably wise. I think our legislation has always been focused on an individual nation and now we need to be mindful of also global agreements or standards of practice.

@Vc2miller I am hoping that more people will start considering trade school or apprenticeships. Truck drivers make bank right now and nobody young wants to do it.

@Freshmoney2021 I have a few patients that do trucking and the money is good from what they tell me. Lots of husband and wife duos to get around the hour rules

So much miss information being dealt out to keep control. Let's give money out so people believe the crap being stated. Limit the truth and squash the questions that lead to the truth. We have a society of mind numbing and blind followers. I left teaching because of this garbage. In four years they lowered the expectations for materials beinh taught and proficiency. Stating it was not fair…See more

@goatedbeast "main source of news for 86 percent of Americans" was surprising to see it put to a number but when I stopped to think I guess I'm not as surprised. Never underestimate convenience in our busy world

@Detholyfield I get that it is situational and it certainly is not easy work. I have a lot of respect for it! A number of my patients are truck drivers or own their own business doing it. It is crazy how many times the conversation on the shortage has come up this last year. I think it is a great alternative for those that want a career but don't want to do a traditional 4 year college degree.

@prometheus840 So the beauty of the $VOO is that buying it alone gives you access to the other 500 companies without doing all that extra work. The only expense is a very low expense ratio which is one of the lowest in existence. DCA the VOO just means pick a set amount and time interval and just keep adding to it consistently regardless of whether the stock market is going up or down. In the end th…See more
