Trading prediction markets with the Public MCP server

Use the Public MCP server to browse prediction markets, read outcome pricing, and buy YES or NO event contracts from Claude, ChatGPT, or any connected AI assistant using natural language.

Before You Get Started

  • →You will need a Public.com brokerage account. Create one at public.com/signup.
  • →Connect the Public MCP server to your AI assistant. Follow the hosted MCP setup guide for Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Meta Muse, Perplexity, or Grok.
  • →New to prediction markets? Read how prediction markets are structured to learn how events, outcomes, and YES/NO contracts fit together.

How it works

You ask questions and give instructions in plain language. Your assistant picks the right Public MCP tools, calls them in order, and passes identifiers between them, so you never need to look up an event symbol or contract symbol yourself. Contract prices are in dollars between 0.00 and 1.00and equal the market's implied probability, so a YES contract at 0.80 means the market puts the outcome at roughly 80%.

These are the prediction market tools the server exposes:

get_event_categoriesLists the categories and subcategories you can browse, such as Crypto or Economics.
get_event_summaryBrowses events by category, frequency, or resolution time, sorted by volume, expiration, or recently added.
get_event_detailsReturns an event's outcomes, the YES and NO contracts for each, live pricing, and the trading timeline.
get_event_contract_barsPulls price history for up to 8 contracts of one event over a day, week, month, or all time.
get_current_eventFinds the window of a recurring market that is trading right now, such as the current 15-minute BTC window.
preflight_buy_event_contractPrices a buy, including commission and exchange fees, without placing an order.
buy_event_contractPlaces a DAY limit order to buy a YES or NO contract. This is a real trade.
wait_for_settlementWaits for an outcome to settle and reports which side won, and whether your contract won.

Place your first event contract order

7 steps
  1. 1

    Confirm your account

Ask your assistant which Public accounts it can see. If you have more than one brokerage account, tell it which one to trade in.
List my Public accounts and use my brokerage account for prediction market trades.
  2. 2

    Browse categories and events

Start broad, then narrow down by category, how often the market recurs, or when it resolves. Your assistant uses get_event_categories and get_event_summary.
Show me the five highest-volume economics prediction markets that haven't resolved yet.
  3. 3

Read an event's outcomes and pricing

Pick an event and ask for its outcomes. Your assistant calls get_event_details and returns the bid, ask, and implied probability for each YES and NO contract, plus when trading closes.
What are the outcomes for the October Fed decision, and what are the YES and NO prices for each?
  4. 4

    Check the price history

See how the market's view has moved before you commit. Your assistant calls get_event_contract_bars.
How has the YES price for "Fed maintains rate" moved over the past week?
  5. 5

    Run a preflight check

Ask what the order would cost before placing it. Your assistant calls preflight_buy_event_contract, which returns the limit price and an estimated cost that includes commission and exchange fees. No order is placed.
What would it cost to buy 10 YES contracts on "Fed maintains rate" at $0.80 each?
  6. 6

    Place the order

Confirm the trade. Your assistant calls buy_event_contract, which places a DAY limit order. If you don't give a limit price, it uses the contract's current ask, rounded up to a whole cent.
Place that order: buy 10 YES contracts on "Fed maintains rate" with a limit of $0.80.
  7. 7

Check the order and your position

Confirm the order filled and the contracts are in your portfolio.

Trade a 15-minute market

3 steps
  1. 1

    Find the current window

Recurring markets, such as the 15-minute BTC "Up or Down" series (KXBTC15M), open a new event every window. Your assistant calls get_current_event to find the one trading right now and how many seconds are left before it closes.
What's the current 15-minute BTC window, how long until it closes, and what are the YES and NO asks?
  2. 2

    Buy before the window closes

Windows close quickly, so give the side, quantity, and limit in a single instruction.
Buy 5 YES contracts on the current BTC window, but only if the ask is $0.60 or less.
  3. 3

    Wait for settlement

A window settles a few minutes after it closes. Your assistant calls wait_for_settlement and tells you which side won and whether your contract paid out.
Wait for that BTC window to settle and tell me if I won.

Exiting a position

The Public MCP server buys event contracts but doesn't sell them. To exit before the market closes, sell from the Public app or place a sell order through the API, as shown in the prediction markets guide. Otherwise, hold the contract to settlement: it pays $1.00 if it settles in your favor and $0.00 if it doesn't.

Automate a strategy

Want to automate a strategy instead of trading from a chat? The 15-minute prediction markets guide includes a Python script that trades your criteria every window.

Trade with your AI assistant through Public

Once connected, your assistant can research prediction markets, price contracts, and place orders from a conversation.
